Hi there.

If you're here, you've come here from elsewhere.

Welcome to my thoughts.

If you've come here from the Myst: The Motion Picture Production Blog or elsewhere, yes, this is the new location of my blog. This is actually a far older blog than Scheming Hot Tea, started when I was in high school. It is also a great deal more informal and tends to consist mostly of me whining about my life.

Though, now that Scheming Hot Tea, I find myself still wanting a place to more formal in my posts.

Yes, there are friendslocked posts. Most of them are private things, consisting of me whining even more vehemently about my life (for what else are blogs for?) Some of them are fiction writings or requests for help with papers, which are locked to keep people from ganking my work. It's happened before, it's not happening again.

As usual, I find myself being a bit TL;DR (Too Long; Didn't Read for those who don't speak Internet)

So yes. Hello, and welcome.

As of now, this journal will be used only to post original short fiction under friendslock. will be used for everything else.

IF I AM SLOW TO FRIEND YOU BACK WITH THE LATTER JOURNAL, PLEASE DO NOT BE OFFENDED. I hardly ever friendslock anything on that one anyway, and it's just going to take me a while to sort y'all into proper groups (ie, roleplay buddies, real life buddies, CTY, etc)

First App = in

U Pitt application = submitted. Time to take a break! Next app is due January 2; unfortunately I'm having some problems with George Mason's submission process. They use the same one as UPitt, Emerson, and Antioch, but for some reason it's like YOU CANNOT HAZ LOGIN.

Also I should probably start on PSU's early since I have to actually mail that one.

In other news, OMG SNOW. I am going sledding with friends. ^^ And refusing to take my meds for a few days. BBL.
jesus christ its a house

it just doesn't stop

So now my glasses are breaking. It is finals week, thus I have no time to get a new pair.

Just. FML. All levels of Fml.

(no subject)

AFJSDlj God damn it XD

The photobucket account which used to host my layout image died, and I don't have the original image saved on my hard drive. I also have no idea how to fix the layout with a new image.

Kind of sucks becuase I REALLY liked this layout!

well fuck

Even if Marvel calls me back, at this point I don't think I'll be able to take the internship.

Basically, my grad school programs need to know the date I graduate. This would normally be December, except I was holding off in case I got the internship. The Marvel internship requires undergrad credit in order for you to be allowed to do it at all. If I don't get it, then I'm enrolled for a semester with a whole lot of nothing to show for it.

This is bad, as you can imagine.

If I don't hear back from them by Friday I'm just going to tell the Registar to graduate me.

well fuck

e key fell off. N key does not work unless I slam it. Spacebar is not working right - not springing back up as it should

for fuck's sake computer just work for a few more months until I can request something Shiny And New as a graduation present

Personal Statement

oh lol. so.

The rough draft of my personal statement for grad school admission is nine bloody pages long

The longest one I'm supposed to do is I think three pages, 1.5 spaced.

Anyone unbusy enough to help me edit this sucker down? I have some really beautiful turns of phrase in it; but a lot of it is probably unnecessary. Also, it's very much in scribbled "THIS IS JUST MY IDEAS ASAP" form

god my first app is due Dec 11 aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh.

Carl Sagan is haunting me

In other news, Carl Sagan's ghost seems to be following me around, and I'm pretty sure someone is trying to tell me that I should go read his work right now.

First, my friend Mike Monaco showed me the amazing song Glorious Dawn, a remix of some stuff from Cosmos (also with Stephen Hawking). I couldn't stop listening to it, and made the slow, strange realization that this man has actually influenced a great deal of my thinking about the universe and science, and I wasn't even aware of it. I remember reading Contact on my mother's recommendation when quite small, but I don't know how the rest of his thinking managed to worm its way into my subconscious.

Then XKCD did this the very next day. He's following me.

The fact that I really, really need to read some of what he wrote (or watch Cosmos), however, was emphasized by one of the comments in the discussion thread on said comic:

"A book is made from a tree. It is an assemblage of flat, flexible parts (still called “leaves”) imprinted with dark pigmented squiggles. One glance at it and you hear the voice of another person – perhaps someone dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, the author is speaking, clearly and silently, inside your head, directly to you. Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people, citizens of distant epochs, who never knew one another. Books break the shackles of time, proof that humans can work magic."

That made me cry. That is why I want to be a writer. And the fact that this man somehow sums up exactly my feelings on any number of subjects so eloquently makes me tear up.

At least I know who I'll talk about when colleges ask me "who is your inspiration as a writer of nonfiction."
